Persistent heavy rain from mid-September into early October 2026 caused sustained flooding across low-lying parts of Thailand. NASA Earth Observatory compared false-colour Landsat images of Prachin Buri province taken in October 2025 and on 2 October 2026. The newer view shows water spreading along the Bang Pakong River and across nearby farmland and aquaculture facilities; false colour helps distinguish water from vegetation and developed surfaces. A low-pressure system that remained over the region for several days probably contributed to the disaster. Warmth and moisture from the Gulf of Thailand supplied energy for intense rainfall, and Bangkok received nearly 300 millimetres in forty-eight hours, close to its average rainfall for the whole of September. Since mid-September, floods have affected fifty provinces and more than four million people. Dozens of deaths were reported, while government estimates indicate that about 270,000 hectares of farmland, including rice fields and fruit orchards, were damaged.
