WHO Hub Sets a 24-Hour Goal for Detecting New Outbreaks
WHO Salgın Merkezi yeni tehditleri 24 saatte saptamayı hedefliyor
The World Health Organization has launched a five-year strategy for its Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence. Its 2030 ambition is for every country to detect and understand an emerging health threat within 24 hours of its appearance. The plan is not presented as a single warning system. Instead, it joins several programmes that provide different forms of evidence and support. An open-source intelligence network uses artificial intelligence to scan publicly available information for possible signals; it already serves more than 125 Member States. A pathogen-surveillance network will strengthen genomic sequencing and bioinformatics, helping countries identify new agents and develop tests or treatments. Other initiatives connect modelling specialists, support national surveillance through a One Health approach, and develop secure systems for sharing and analysing data. WHO notes that quick detection can help contain outbreaks before they become wider epidemics, but also stresses that lasting investment, trusted partnerships and cooperation across sectors will be necessary to meet the goal.
